LOUIS VUITTON 2016 cruise show review
On May the 6th, Luxury French fashion house Louis Vuitton hosted an A-listed event in the middle of the desert -attracting a crowd of stars such as Catherine Deneuve, Kanye West, Selena Gomez and Miranda Kerr– to see its latest cruise collection by Nicolas Ghesquiere, the man behind the strong years of Balenciaga who moved to Louis Vuitton in late 2013, overshadowing Marc Jacobs. After Tom Ford and Burberry, Louis Vuitton staged its cruise show in Los Angeles and thus, proved that California is now the hotspot of fashion, experiencing a sort of jet-set rebirth in an industry which considers New York as the cultural reference. It must be noted that California is now rising on the world fashion scene and Louis Vuitton proved that it is now integrated into the fashion agenda.

Models strolled on the catwalk wearing futuristic jumpsuits and rompers in patterns that are a clear evocation of Native American fabrics, sometimes referring to a sort of army. The long and flared gowns in desert hues, belt and studs details are a representation of a powerful woman. The fluid silhouettes and the strong presence of the leather throughout the collection creates a confusion between force and feminity.

The structure of the circular and futuristic building of the Bob and Dolores Hope Estate in Palm Springs is an architectural echo of Ghesquière’s collection: si »What inspired me very much is the contrast in this home between a certain brutalist exterior – it is very radical – and the softer, more decorative items inside,“ Ghesquiere forcefully expressed
